If the topic is Detroit music — in all its varied forms — it usually doesn’t take long for me to reach the outer limits. The deep soundtrack of techno from Moodymann and Carl Craig pair easily with the Motown grooves of Marvin Gaye.
But I don’t stop there. Rock and roll hailing from the mitten, as well as some of the world’s greatest jazz contributions, have also traveled the spaceways. By the time I reach the space rock of Windy & Carl or the cosmic funk of Funkadelic, the case is clear — Detroit is the premier landing station for the Mothership.
