I’m back on the decks! I guess I knew it would happen. I’ve been a DJ for years, and in a variety of settings outside of radio, including on hotel rooftops, at a swim club in the desert, on a float in the middle of a pond, at museums, galleries, clubs, lounges, and an opera house. i just had my first gig in the lanes of a bowling alley.
I DJ’d at Bowlero Lanes & Lounge over the weekend. This latest DJ run started with a private reopening at The Peterboro. I then found myself DJing with the legendary Mike E. Clark for the equally legendary Stirling for his private birthday party. Another private event followed before I was finally able to open the gates to the public at Bowlero.
My set at Bowlero was five hours exclusively dedicated to vinyl. I spend a lot of my time digging in the digital goldmines as of late, so it’s refreshing to take some time out for a few vinyl gems to share.
In my typical style, we heard music from all over the spectrum. The only rule is to bring enough music necessary for five hours of fun.
Here’s a small video collection of some of the cuts that were played. I love this part of the post because it helps me to discover that Nancy & Lee made a video for “Jackson” (above). Amazing! I’m now trying to figure out how to play it at the venue because I think it needs to be seen.
Playing music from ADULT. was a good idea for many reasons. One of them is that it helps introduce me to new friends I had yet to meet. In this case, these new friends also love ADULT. and quite a few of the Detroit-centric music that was being played. What’s that I always say? Music brings people together.
I’ll visit Bowlero again soon, and I even have some more events up my (record) sleeves. I’ve created an EVENTS page so it’s easy to keep up. There are also options to sign up for my site’s RSS feed (at the top of this page), as well as my email newsletter for direct notifications.
Thank you to all my lovely friends (both old and new!) who came out to catch the vibes. Sharing music is fun at any time, but it really doesn’t get better than when we’re all in the same room together.
